Punjab Kings got a few updates on Shreyas Iyer prior to T20 cricket match against CSK

When it comes to T20 Cricket, the IPL is the most competitive yearly tournament. So far in the 2026 IPL season, every team has played at least one match, including the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings.

The Punjab Kings kicked off their season with a tremendous victory over the Gujarat Titans. Captain Shreyas Iyer made some changes to their playing 11 that helped tilt the pitch in their favor. Chief among those decisions was the one to play Cooper Connolly ahead of himself in the three-spot.

The result? A Player of the Match-winning knock of 72 runs to propel the Kings to victory.

Now, the Kings have gotten some news on their captain ahead of their next match against the Chennai Super Kings.

Shreyas Iyer Injury Update Ahead of T20 Cricket Match vs CSK

The Punjab Kings assistant coach Brad Haddin has given an update on Iyer’s condition ahead of Friday’s match against CSK. There was some concern that he might not be able to play.

Via Cricbuzz, Haddin confirms, “No fracture, although there is some swelling. Shreyas is expected to play against CSK tomorrow, though.”

Iyer is an important piece of the puzzle for the PBKS squad. In the first match of the season, Shreyas recorded two sixes along with 18 total runs while batting fourth.

Shreyas Iyer Slapped With First Fine of IPL 2026

The IPL made an announcement related to Shreyas on April 1st. According to a media advisory, the IPL fined Shreyas for his actions during the PBKS’ first match of the season.

“Punjab Kings (PBKS) Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 4 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the New International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh,” the advisory reads. “As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 12 lakhs.”
