"Credit to him": Suryakumar Yadav highly praise Sameer Rizvi impressive performance against MI in IPL 2026
The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) entered the first double header on Saturday, as Delhi Capitals (DC) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, New Delhi. The two teams came to this match after winning their first games of IPL 2026. DC/MI beat MI/DC by _____ runs/ wickets. DC won the toss and elected to field first.
DC came into the match with an unchanged XI from their win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, MI made three changes, among them one was a forced change, as their regular captain, Hardik Pandya, was not available due to illness, and Suryakumar Yadav led the charge for the franchise.
Hardik Pandya missed DC vs MI clash
The other two changes were Deepak Chahar for Pandya, Corbin Bosch replaced Trent Boult, and Mitchell Santner was in the place of Allah Ghazanfar.
MI started well with Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma; however, the former was back in the pavilion after Mukesh Kumar got the breakthrough. In the same over, Mukesh deceived Tilak Varma with a slower ball as the Southpaw was back without scoring.
MI were in trouble for 18/2, and then the two most experienced players, Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav, took charge and built a partnership for the five-time champions. However, Rohit Sharma was dismissed on the score of 35 runs, with Axar Patel giving DC the much-needed breakthrough, and MI were 71/3 at one stage.
Suryakumar Yadav's fifty was not enough
Suryakumar Yadav was the leading scorer with a score of 51 runs. Surya and Naman Dhir took the charge after the 15th over and scored quickly, as SKY scored a fifty of 35 balls and was back soon after scoring the half century, with Lungi Ngidi providing DC with the wicket.
Naman and Mitchell Santner, later on, tried to score aggressively, and as the former scored 28. Santner’s small cameo of 18 runs off 13 balls and Corbin Bosch's 11 off 4 balls helped MI to score 162/6 in their 20 overs.
Sameer Rizvi the hero for DC
Coming out to chase, the DC opener KL Rahul was back in the pavilion for just one run, and then Nitish Rana was also back for a duck with Jasprit Bumrah producing a sensational run-out to dismiss the Southpaw for a three-ball duck. Pathum Nissanka and Sameer Rizvi then stitched a partnership.
The former was striking at a good pace. DC built a partnership with Pathum Nissanka and Sameer Rizvi of 66 runs for the third wicket. Nissanka was out on the score of 44 runs. Then Rizvi took over and scored a brilliant half-century; it was his second consecutive fifty in IPL 2026. Rizvi scored 90 runs off 51 balls, smashing 7 sixes and as many fours. After the DC vs MI match, DC are now at the top of the table.
Pitch didn't change too much- Suryakumar Yadav
After the loss Suryakumar Yadav said, "Decent wicket, we expected it to be slow. We were 15-20 short, don't want to take credit away from their bowlers and Rizvi. Lot of credit to him, he never let us get back into the game."
"Pitch didn't change too much, they understood the conditions and batted beautifully. When batting first, there's nothing like a par score. We felt 180-185 was a good score. Naman and I got out at the wrong time. There'll be days like this with the ball, have to go back to the drawing board and come back better.
