Dawnheights and Railways shine in dominant weekend of club cricket
Both clubs have teams at the top of their respective leagues.
Dawnheights and Railways Cricket Clubs delivered decisive performances in stifling weather over the weekend, recording some impressive wins.
Dawnheights’ Promo XI recorded a 98-run victory over Silver Saints in their 30-over fixture at Chatsworth on Sunday.
After coming under early pressure, middle order batsman Saieshan Logenathan scored a match-defining 103 off 64 balls to help the men from KwaDukuza to 238 for 6.
Silver Saints struggled in reply and were dismissed for 140 in 21.1 overs. Trynn “Spanner” Naidoo led the bowling with figures of 4 for 25, while Bageloo and Avishkar Ramdu both claimed two wickets.
Logenathan was named man of the match as Dawnheights solidified their position at the top of the table.
Tongaat’s Railways Cricket Club also enjoyed a successful weekend.
The first team defeated Phoenix by seven wickets in their 30-over match at Crawford.
Phoenix were bowled out for 143 in 28.5 overs, with Nirav Maharaj taking 5 for 23 and Rodney Govender claiming 2 for 17.
Railways comfortably chased down the total, led by Maharaj’s unbeaten 40, securing qualification for the 50-over phase of the Promotion League in the process.
The Railways second team suffered an eight-wicket loss to Simplex, while the third team went down by six wickets to DHS Rhythm.
In veterans’ cricket, Railways defeated ACC by 73 runs at Toti Oval on Saturday. After recovering from 150 for 7, the Tongaat team posted 240 for 8, thanks to a crucial eighth-wicket partnership between Sajid Ilyas (67) and Enver Reddy.
ACC were bowled out for 167, with Rafaqat Ali taking 4 for 15. Railways Veterans now sit top of the log with six matches remaining.
