Kolkata, February 14: England secured a convincing victory over Scotland by 5 wickets in the 23rd match of the T20 World Cup 2026. This marks England’s second win in the tournament, placing them second in Group C’s points table.
After losing the toss, Scotland batted first and was restricted to just 152 runs in 19.4 overs. The team faced early setbacks, losing two wickets for just 18 runs. Captain Richie Berrington then partnered with Michael Jones to add 24 runs for the third wicket. Jones scored 33 runs off 20 balls, hitting 6 boundaries, before being dismissed. Berrington, meanwhile, contributed significantly with 49 runs off 32 balls, including 2 sixes and 5 fours, while Tom Bruce added 24 runs before returning to the pavilion. Oliver Davidson remained unbeaten with 20 runs. For England, Adil Rashid was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets, while Jofra Archer and Liam Dawson took 2 wickets each. Jamie Overton and Sam Curran also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
In response, England chased down the target in 18.2 overs, despite losing 2 wickets for just 13 runs. Jacob Bethel formed a crucial partnership with Tom Banton, adding 66 runs for the third wicket off 45 balls. Bethel scored 32 runs off 28 balls. After the dismissal of captain Harry Brook for 4 runs, England found themselves at 86 for 4. However, Sam Curran and Tom Banton steadied the innings, adding 46 runs in just 33 balls to guide England to victory.
