When DC were reeling on 26/4 and needed another 116 from 93, the target of 142 suddenly looked like an uphill task. LSG were mounting up the pressure and what should have been a relatively easy run chase was now appearing to be impossible for DC. But 22-year-old Sameer Rizvi had other plans. He decided to flip the script.

Rizvi added 119 runs with Tristian Stubbs (39 not out) for the 5th wicket. But he did not take unnecessary risks. Every shot Rizvi played was calculated and with precision. As a result, the asking rate never went out of control and slowly the gap between runs and balls began to diminish.

Sameer Rizvi a Future Team India T20I Prospect?

This is also a message to BCCI that India have a good option to try out as a finisher sooner rather than later. The likes of Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are soon entering their mid to late 30s so they will not be around forever. If Rizvi can be groomed as a future prospect, then by 25 he could be well and ready to establish himself in the side. We may even see him in the 2030 T20 World Cup if not in 2028. But the transition needs to start happening as soon as possible.

Shall Sameer Rizvi Play International Cricket?

Rizvi is knocking on Team India’s door but it is up to the BCCI to open it. More such knocks in IPL 2026 shall only help Rizvi’s case and make him more visible. This edition itself is just five games old and there is a long way to go. Rizvi has at least 13 matches to create an even better impression. If such innings continue, a Team India call-up may not be far away.

Bright Future Ahead for Sameer Rizvi

Of course, the youngster has a long way to go. But at the moment, he is on the right track. Only time will tell if Rizvi plays in national colours. If he does, it shall be the result of his own hard work and a bit of luck. One can only hope for the best.
