Jos Buttler Becomes First Wicketkeeper-Batsman to Score 4,000 T20 Runs

Kolkata, February 14: English cricketer Jos Buttler has made history by becoming the first wicketkeeper-batsman in the world to score 4,000 runs in T20 international cricket.

On Saturday, England faced Scotland, chasing a target of 153 runs. Buttler achieved this milestone on the fourth ball of the second over. This match also marked his 150th T20 appearance for England. He is now the fifth player globally and the only English player to have played 150 or more T20 internationals. Ireland’s Paul Stirling tops this list with 163 matches played in his career.

Buttler is the fourth player to reach 4,000 runs in T20 internationals and the first Englishman to do so. Before him, Virat Kohli (4,188), Rohit Sharma (4,231), and Babar Azam (4,566) had reached this landmark. Kohli was the first player to cross the 4,000-run mark, achieving it on November 10, 2022.

In the T20 World Cup 2026 Group C match against Scotland, Buttler needed just 3 runs to reach the 4,000-run milestone. He scored 3 runs off 4 balls in this match, completing the achievement.

Since his T20 debut against India in 2011, Buttler has maintained an average of over 35 and a strike rate of 148, accumulating 4,000 runs, including 28 half-centuries and one century, with a highest score of 101.

In the match held at Eden Gardens on Saturday, Scotland was bowled out for 152 runs in 19.4 overs. Captain Richie Berrington scored 49 runs off 32 balls, while Michael Jones contributed 33 runs.

In response, England secured victory in 18.2 overs, with Tom Banton scoring an unbeaten 63 runs, including 7 boundaries, and Jacob Bethel adding 32 runs to the total.
