The San Francisco 49ers welcomed back Deebo Samuel Sr. with the best gift possible – a touchdown served up on a platter against the Los Angeles Rams at Melbourne Cricket Ground Stadium in Australia on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Samuel helped the Niners cap a 99-yard drive with a 15-yard catch and score to put San Francisco ahead 24-7 with 12:57 left in the game. It was his first touchdown with the 49ers since he last played for them during the 2024 season.

Quarterback Brock Purdy found Samuel alone in the end zone after scrambling outside of the pocket, buying time before he saw a familiar target.

Samuel has six catches, 48 yards and a touchdown. He's averaged 8 yards per catch with his 15-yard touchdown his longest of the game. Samuel has been targeted seven times this game. He is tied with Mike Evans for most receptions for the 49ers.

Samuel rejoined the Niners after spending the 2025 season playing with the Washington Commanders. He was originally selected by San Francisco, out of South Carolina, with the 36th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Samuel signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the 49ers on Aug. 1.
