Athanaze’s heroics power PMS into U19 Finals
J’quan Athanaze delivered another outstanding performance on Tuesday afternoon to propel Princess Margaret School (PMS) into the finals of the Ministry of Sports Interschools Under-19 Cricket Competition, defeating Clare Hall Secondary School on first innings points.
The dynamic batting all-rounder registered his fourth century of the tournament, smashing a brilliant 147 off 105 balls, including 17 fours and six towering sixes.
The 16 year old has now scored a total of 727 runs in the competition at an average of 145.4 with top score of 207 against All Saints Secondary School.
His innings guided PMS to 194 for 9 in 29.4 overs at the close of play on Day 2, comfortably surpassing CHSS’s first innings total of 85. Jariek Francis (12) and Kerique Mentore (11) provided valuable support.
For Clare Hall, Jayden Charles (3-25) and Kiscean Francis (3-44) were the leading wicket-takers.
Earlier on Day 1, Clare Hall were dismissed for 85, with Janiel Henry and Mentore both claiming three wickets, while Francis chipped in with 2-30. Norman Bell top-scored with 18, and Kiscean Francis added 12, as PMS conceded 17 extras.
With this victory, PMS advance to the final, powered once again by Athanaze’s exceptional form.
