Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja to return for Sri Lanka Test series; Washington Sundar doubtful
According to reports, the BCCI is likely to assess Washington Sundar's fitness ahead of the squad selection meeting for the tour of Sri Lanka in August.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to pick the squad for India’s two-test tour of Sri Lanka this week. As per the Times of India, the main focus will be Washington Sundar’s fitness after the 26-year-old got injured during the Cardiff ODI match last week. Sundar has become a mainstay in the Test format and performed well in the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
Gujarat Titans star scored 52 not out with the bat and also took five wickets with the ball, including 4 for 36 in the second innings. The player was batting during India’s chase when he suffered a hamstring injury and was eventually ruled out of the final ODI on Sunday. Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey was drafted in as a replacement for the game, but the youngster didn’t make his debut.
A statement issued by the board after the player's injury stated: “He will seek a specialist opinion for further management of his injury". If the cricketer doesn’t pass the fitness test, then the selectors will have to look for alternatives. TOI also reported that the all-rounder would need two weeks to recover if it is a pull or grade 1 injury.
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja set for return to Test side
The newspaper also reported that Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are set to return. Bumrah also missed the final ODI against England due to injury. Jadeja, on the other hand,hasn’t played since the Mullanpur Test against Afghanistan. The veteran star seemingly isn’t on the selectors' radar for the ODI format.

Manav Suthar, as per the same reports, is set to keep his place in the team after picking seven wickets on his Test debut. Kuldeep Yadav, who wasn’t given a chance to play in the ODI series, is also likely to be retained. The pace bowling department will likely see Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnoor Brar. The right-arm seamer from Punjab had a great tour of Sri Lanka with the India A side.
The batting department is not going to see any major changes, with Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sai Sudharsan set to play a massive role. Sudharsan was in fine nick during the India A vs Sri Lanka A Tests, scoring 332 runs at an average of 166, with two centuries.
