A round-up of the latest local cricketing action...
Blyth CC recorded a remarkable one-run victory over Allendale CC on Saturday afternoon, thwarting their opponents in the nick of time courtesy of an Ali Muhammad catch from a Harry Clark delivery.
After losing the toss, Blyth batted first, and ran up a total of 155 before they were eventually all out in the 41st over. A stellar 78 not out from Ashton Haycock - including a dozen boundaries - provided the foundation for an impressive innings, with Tom Holland also contributing 20.
What followed was a dramatic chase from Allendale, who managed to pull themselves to within two runs of victory, thanks in large part to a half-century from Jonny Wallace. Their efforts were hampered somewhat by an eye-catching turn from Haycock, who claimed five wickets with the ball in hand, before Clark claimed his second wicket of the contest to ensure that Allendale were dismissed for 154 in 40 overs.
Elsewhere, Ashington CC played out a high-scoring draw with Castle Eden CC over the weekend, with both sides shining at the crease. Ashington batted first and stormed their way to 288/9 before declaring, with Jordan Evans and opener Jack Jessop scoring 89 and 85 respectively to establish a dominant position for the home side.
Castle Eden were not to be deterred, however, and held their own with the bat in hand to end the day on 219/3 after 55 overs - forcing a sharing of the spoils in the process. A 70 from JP Meade was supplemented by half-centuries from Mandeep Singh and Benjamin Simpson.
