IPL 2026: CSK Coach Fleming Optimistic About Brevis Return for Upcoming Match
Bengaluru, April 5: Dewald Brevis is expected to return to action for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) soon. CSK’s head coach, Stephen Fleming, stated that Brevis is not far from being match-ready. He believes the batsman will be available for the home match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 11.
During the match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, Fleming expressed optimism, saying, “We hope he (Dewald Brevis) will be fully fit for the next match. We have five days before the next game. We are being cautious and hope these next five days go according to our plan. He will be ready to play. His absence in recent matches has been a significant loss, but we are eagerly waiting to bring him back into the team.”
Dewald Brevis joined CSK as a replacement player in IPL 2025 and proved valuable by scoring 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 across six innings, hitting 17 sixes in just 125 balls. Following his impressive performance, the franchise retained him for IPL 2026.
Brevis missed the first three matches of IPL 2026 due to a side strain. With five days before the match against Delhi Capitals, Fleming is keenly awaiting Brevis’ return to the squad.
The CSK team did not train a day before the match against RCB, but on match day, Brevis was seen facing throwdowns from assistant coach Rajiv Kumar. He mostly defended the balls and reported no discomfort. Afterward, he participated in a football game with his teammates.
Previously, before the match against Punjab Kings at Chepauk, Brevis practiced batting in the side nets a day before the game, primarily facing throwdowns. He also took part in fielding drills on match day.
