Pakistan Drop Further Down in ICC World Test Championship Points Table
Pakistan’s position in the World Test Championship (WTC) race has taken a fresh hit after the ICC docked them eight points for a slow over-rate in the first Test against Bangladesh.
The penalty came after Pakistan were ruled eight overs short of the required rate at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, once time allowances were taken into account.
As a result, their points tally has dropped from 12 to 4, adding further damage after their 104-run defeat in the series opener.
Pakistan were also fined 40 percent of their match fees, with the sanction imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. Captain Shan Masood accepted the offence and the proposed punishment, so no formal hearing was required.

| 2 | New Zealand | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 28 |

The points deduction has weakened Pakistan’s position in the early stages of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.
Before the sanction, Pakistan had one win and two defeats from three matches and were sitting on 12 points. After the ICC action, they are now down to four points, leaving them with far less room for error in the matches ahead.
Bangladesh now sit sixth in the table with 16 points, while Pakistan are seventh with just 4 points. Australia continue to lead the standings, followed by New Zealand and South Africa.
