A mixed weekend for the senior sides with two wins and two losses, alongside strong cup progress and successful week across the junior and development sections.

Men’s Senior Cricket
1st XI – Defeat at Ifield
It was another close encounter at The Safrons on Saturday when the 1st XI fell to a narrow defeat away at Ifield, who posted 246–8 after choosing to bat. Jack Trubshaw, Jack Shelley and Jacob Smith taking 2 wickest each. Eastbourne’s reply was spirited, led by skipper Scott Lenham’s 64, and Jacob Smith 46, but the chase ended at 230 all out, leaving the side just short despite a determined effort. Eastbourne felt very unlucky when some umpiring decisions went against them, which proved costly in the result, but they hope to bounce back this weekend away at Worthing.

2nd XI – Four From Four and Flying
The 2nd XI extended their perfect league start with a dominant win over Tunbridge Wells 3rd XI. The hosts made 242–4, with stand‑in skipper Jonny Meardon taking 3–44, but Eastbourne’s reply was explosive. The 2s raced to 246–3 in 26 overs, thanks to a maiden league century from Jack Meacher (100 from 53)*, supported by Oscar Wright (62) and Shaun Van Niekerk (53). The win opens up a 16‑point lead at the top of Division 5.

3rd XI – First Loss of the Season
The 3rd XI slipped to their first defeat of the campaign, losing by 5 wickets to Battle 1st XI. Eastbourne posted a competitive 233–7, with skipper Gavin Hornby scoring an excellent 83, but Battle chased the target inside 33 overs. The 3s remain joint top of Division 7, though only three points separate the top four sides.

4th XI – Milestones and Momentum
The 4th XI continued their impressive start in Division 11 with a 135‑run win over Battle 2s at Larkins. Eastbourne made 286, highlighted by two superb maiden centuries: Meha Sivakumar (115)* and Felix Ford (111 maiden league century), who added 229 for the third wicket. With the ball, Alex Willmott (3–11) and Seb Goodyer (3–31) led the way as Battle reached 151–8. A wonderful blend of experience and youth on display on the Larkins — Dad’s Army brilliantly supporting the young recruits — keeps the 4s in a three‑way tie at the top of Division 11. Keep it up Captain Mainwaring!

Cup Competitions
2nd XI – T20 Trophy Progress
The 2s marched into Round 2 of the T20 Trophy with a 64‑run win at Hastings. Inserted to bat, Eastbourne powered to 197–5, with Jack Meacher (49) and David Twine (48) in fine form. Hastings managed 133–8 in reply as the 2s’ excellent season continued.

U13 Boys – Into the Quarter‑Finals
The U13s claimed an 83‑run win over Buxted Park in Round 2 of the National Knockout, posting 156–5 with Ashton Hart (30)* and Luca Ashford (31)* retiring. All eight bowlers took wickets as Buxted were dismissed for 73, an impressive result given eight players were unavailable and shows the outstanding strength in depth in the U12s and 13s age groups.

U15 Boys – Walkover Win
The U15s progressed after Hailsham were unable to provide the required fixture dates under ECB rules.

Both U13s and U15s now move into the county quarter‑finals and wait to find out their opponents.

Development & Midweek Cricket
Development XI – Big Win at The Saffrons
The Development XI ended the weekend with a 146‑run victory over Zambuca Tigers CC, scoring 233–6 before bowling the visitors out for 87. Jack Shelly starred again on a Sunday with 78 and 4–7, supported by Fin Bremer (51) and Samuel Lipa (3–12).

Midweek XI – Strong Start
The Midweek XI opened their season with a 7‑wicket win over Brighton Nomads, chasing 221 with nine balls to spare thanks to Harry Jordan’s 69 and Josh Dowsett’s 57.

Junior Cricket
U11 Boys – First League Action
The U11s made their league debut with great enthusiasm, beating Herstmonceux by 40 runs before their match against Little Common was abandoned after a heavy downpour with six overs remaining. They’re straight back into action tomorrow against Hastings U11 at Larkins.
