The 33-year-old all-rounder will be available for the full duration of the competition and arrives with a wealth of T20 experience, having played 206 matches, taken 250 wickets at an average of 24.63, and scored over 2,170 runs at a strike rate of 152.66.

Sams said: "This is an exciting opportunity, and hopefully I can help the team retain the trophy.

"Having played against Somerset, I know how good a T20 side they are, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the team.

"I know a few of the guys already, and I’ll be doing everything that I can to help them win games of cricket in 2026."

He has previously impressed in T20 competitions around the world, including the IPL, Big Bash, CPL, PSL, and The Hundred.

He also has experience in the English domestic circuit with Essex and Nottinghamshire.

In 2023, Sams was named Vitality Blast MVP after scoring 419 runs and taking 25 wickets for Essex, who finished as runners-up to Somerset.

Andy Hurry, Somerset's director of cricket, said: "Daniel has shown his quality all around the world and we are delighted that he will be joining us for our Vitality Blast title defence.

"He has demonstrated over the last few years that he can excel and really impact games in English conditions, and he will certainly bring a powerful blend of bowling finesse, explosive batting, and all-round adaptability."

Sams’ best T20 bowling figures are 5-30, and his highest score is an unbeaten 98.
