ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) has appointed Richard Ngarava as the new Test and one-day international (ODI) captain.

He replaces veteran Craig Ervine, who assumed the post in 2024.

The decision to appoint Ngarava was made at the 2025 fourth quarter meeting, which aimed to reflect on ZC’s year.

According to ZC, Ngarava will be deputised by Brian Bennet as vice captain across the two formats.

Commenting on Ngarava’s appointment ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said,”Ngarava has shown remarkable growth over the years as a player.

“He commands respect within the dressing room and has consistently delivered for Zimbabwe across all formats.

“We believe he is ready to lead the team into the next chapter.”

At 27, Ngarava has featured in 55 ODIs and has 70 wickets to his name at an average of 30.68.

The tall fast baller has 25 wickets in Test cricket out of the 11 games he has played.

Ngarava made his international debut for Zimbabwe in 2017 in an ODI against Afghanistan and has grown to become a key player over the years.
