Purge boxer Abu Bakr Hussain claims Yorkshire title with devastating stoppage win
A rising star boxer from a Batley gym has added to his success by claiming a Yorkshire title.
Abu Bakr Hussain claimed the Yorkshire belt in emphatic fashion after a dominant stoppage victory over George Lines at the Scarborough Cricket Ground marquee.
Hussain, who is sponsored by Abu Bakr Supermarket and trains at the respected Purge Gym in Batley, faced Lines, from the renowned Paul Ingle Boxing Academy, in one of two Yorkshire belt contests on a packed evening of amateur boxing featuring talent from across the region and beyond.
The event showcased top class action from schoolboys through to senior fighters, but it was Hussain who stole the headlines with a powerful display that forced the referee to stop the contest in the final round.
From the opening bell, Hussain applied relentless pressure and showcased his sharp combinations, strength and composure against a tough and highly-rated opponent.
As the fight wore on, his power proved decisive, with the referee stepping in during the closing stages to halt the bout.
The victory marks another major milestone in the rise of one of West Yorkshire’s most exciting young boxing talents.
Speaking after the win, Hamza Hussain, managing director of Abu Bakr Supermarket, said: “We are incredibly proud to sponsor Abu Bakr Hussain. His dedication, humility and work ethic truly set him apart, especially at such a young age.
"He represents not only the future of boxing but also the values we believe in as a business – hard work, discipline and ambition.”
Abu Bakr Hussain said: “Winning the Yorkshire belt means a lot to me.
"George Lines is a very good boxer and I knew it would be a tough fight, but I believed in my preparation and my team. I want to thank everyone at Purge Gym, my family, sponsors and everyone who came out to support me on the night.”
With another impressive performance added to his growing amateur record, Hussain continues to build a reputation as one of the standout young prospects in Yorkshire boxing.
