Australian seamer Minehan agrees third Tintagel stint
TINTAGEL Cricket Club have announced that Australian bowler Jack Minehan is to return to the Butts Field for the 2027 season.
The right-armer who helped lead the Knights to promotion two summers ago, also more than held his own in Division Two East last year, picking up 23 wickets wickets and making 267 runs from the lower order.
He was joined last year by fellow Aussie Leo Agacy who opened the batting and bowled seamers, and although the right-hander isn’t returning, Tintagel look set to go down the British passport route once more.
On Minehan coming back, first team skipper Matt Jolliffe said: “I’m delighted Jack has agreed to come back, he fits in perfectly at the club both on and off the field and does everything you’d want in an overseas player. Also with it being his third year, we know exactly what we’re getting, and we’re excited to see him back next summer.”
Jolliffe, who saw his side finish seventh in their first season back in the third-tier, is determined to build on that this time around.
He continued: “We’re looking at another UK passport holder option, ideally someone who’ll bat at the top of the order and bowl some overs if required, and we’re also hoping to bring in a couple of bowlers if we can.
“The season just gone for us was good, but it could have been better. We started off really well and at the halfway stage I think we’d only lost one game out of nine.
“In the second half we lost a few tight ones and the weather didn’t help, but I said before the season that we’d take mid-table, and we managed to achieve that. I’m a little bit disappointed with how we finished considering how we started, but hopefully next year we can push on towards the top end.”
He also had his say on the second team who were back in Division Six following promotion, and hopes they can continue to work their way up the lower divisions.
He said: “The seconds had a pretty decent season to finish fourth, but we know we could do with closing the gap a bit more between the two sides, while also continuing to give some of the youngsters adult cricket.
“A couple of them did okay for us in the first team when called upon, and with us having an under 13s team which did well, hopefully they’ll start filtering through to the second team and eventually into the firsts, which is what every club wants.”
The club also recently held their annual presentation night recently which was very well attended.
Chairman Sam Abbott, Jolliffe and second team skipper Dave Lane presented the awards, while the coveted clubperson of the year gong went to Garvin Reynolds for his work behind the scenes.
The winners for the three teams were as follows: Under 13s: Batter – Arlo Reynolds; Bowler – Lucas Jarram; Coaches’ Player – Isaac Titchin.
First Team: Batter – Ryan Pooley; Bowler – Gyles Reynolds; Fielder – Jack Minehan; Captain’s Player – Ryan Pooley; Players’ Player – Gyles Reynolds.
