The marquee clash between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup on Sunday, February 15, can be marred by heavy rainfall, which is predicted in Colombo. The Sri Lankan Department of Meteorology has warned of a potential low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, raising the risk of persistent showers during the game.

As per an update from the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, unsettled weather could coincide with match time, increasing the chances of rain disrupting the India-Pakistan clash.

The Sri Lanka Department of Meteorology has issued a caution about a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, forecasting up to a 70% chance of rain in the Khettarama area on Sunday evening.

“A low-pressure area is likely to form over the south-eastern Bay of Bengal around 15th February," the statement read.

As per Accuweather, Sunday evening will be cloudy in Colombo. There is a 13% chance of rain.

However, the venue is one of the few international cricket grounds equipped with full-ground covers, allowing play to resume 20 minutes after the rain subsides.

Meanwhile, amidst lingering tensions where cricket and politics collided like never before, India will rely on middle-order stability and a fit Abhishek Sharma to assert dominance over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup’s marquee clash in Colombo.

A brief ‘peace season’ has started after Pakistan reversed its boycott stance and agreed to face India at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

It came after weeks of intense parleys that involved the International Cricket Council, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

All of South Asia was aligning to make this clash a reality, weather permitting, thanks to its unparalleled ability to draw millions of fans and generate huge revenue.

The chain of events triggered by the BCCI-directed release of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders roster, which escalated into a cross-border controversy, has, for now, come to a pause.
