Foxton Granta (112) continue to lead the way at the Onyx Premier League Division One summit after coming out on top by 51 runs during last weekend’s low-scoring affair at Saffron Walden (61).

After being bowled out during the 47th over, it appeared that the table toppers were on course for just a second defeat of the campaign.

However, the spinning combination of captain Lewys Hill and Jonty Webb joined forces to rip through the Walden batting line-up in only 27.4 overs.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, three members of the Foxton Granta line-up were dismissed for ducks, while two more departed for single-figure scores.

Ash Clark was the only batsman to get out of the teens as he top scored with 36 from 133 deliveries, with 15 apiece coming from Richard Kaufman and Harry Hopwood.

But despite the low total, the division’s leading wicket takers went to work to ensure that Foxton Granta got the job done.

Webb (5-33) and Hill (3-28) both contributed season-best figures, taking their wicket tallies for the campaign to 36 and 27, respectively.

Foxton Granta, who are 32 points clear at the top of the table, will hit the road on Saturday (25 July) afternoon to lock horns with
Bedfordshire-based Southill Park.

May’s reverse fixture between the two sides at the Foxton Recreation Ground went the way of Foxton Granta by a six-wicket margin.

Second-placed Cambridge St Giles (298-7 declared) chalked up back-to-back victories in the Onyx Premier League Division One courtesy of Saturday’s 101-run triumph at Southill Park (197).

Batting first, the St Giles innings centred around the performance of Vansh Bajaj, who found the rope on 19 occasions during his knock of 123 runs from 124 balls.

Krish Chauhan (58), Ted Clifton (40), and Craig Duarado (31) also made significant contributions to push the visitors to a score that they felt safe declaring in a bid to force a positive result.

And having produced the goods with the bat, Chauhan (3-25), Duarado (3-33) and Bajaj (2-37) all replicated that form with the ball, while Ashok Singh (2-71) also got in on the act.

St Giles will aim to rack up a third straight win on Saturday (25 July) when they play host to Eaton Socon at Fenner’s Cricket Ground.

Following last weekend’s drawn encounter with Wisbech Town, Eaton Socon go into the clash sitting fifth in the standings.

Burwell & Exning (254-6 declared) recorded a resounding 191-run victory from their trip to Sawston & Babraham II (63) in the Onyx Premier League Division One on Saturday.

It has been a tough campaign for Burwell & Exning, who spent the previous campaign challenging for the title.

They have spent much of the season in the lower reaches of the table, but they will hope that their third win of the term will lead to a positive run of results.

Sawston & Babraham’s second string, meanwhile, look set for relegation as their wait for a first win of the season continues.

Batting first, the Burwell & Exning innings benefited from a 140-run fourth-wicket partnership.

Dylan Johnson – the division’s leading run scorer – and Nic Huckle came together in the middle with their side struggling on 20-3.

But together they steadied the ship, with Johnson (137 from 123 balls) taking the role of aggressor and Huckle (56 from 108 balls) providing the support.

The Rams’ bowling was spearheaded by Dan Barnes with figures of 2-32 before the visitors opted to declare after 51 overs.

The reply was one to forget for Sawston & Babraham, who lost four batsmen for ducks and four more for single-figure returns.

Captain Julius Jackson was the hosts’ top scorer with 18 runs, while Barnes (13) was the only other batsmen to contribute double figures.

Burwell & Exning, who are up to seventh in the table, will play host to Histon on Saturday (25 July).

Histon (229) will go into that game 48 points from guaranteed safety in the Onyx Premier League Division One following a seven-wicket home defeat to Newmarket (232-3).

Having been inserted into bat after losing the toss, the trio of Ed Hyde (56), John Turner (52) and Jayesh Mohan (51) all scored half centuries for Histon.

And having reduced their visitors to 22-3 during the reply, it appeared that Histon were on course for a crucial victory.

However, that proved to be the end of the wicket-taking as Newmarket’s Taheer Isaacs and Maxford Pipe smashed their team to victory.

Isaacs finished unbeaten on exactly 100 runs, while his partner Pipe notched up 105.
