Hundred Star Tim Seifert Joins Sydney Sixers on One-Year Big Bash Deal
Sydney Sixers have strengthened their squad for KFC BBL|16 by signing New Zealand opener Tim Seifert on a one-year contract.
Seifert joins the Sixers as an established member of New Zealand’s white-ball side and one of the most dangerous top-order batters in T20 cricket.
Since making his international debut in 2018, the 31-year-old has represented the Black Caps in 90 T20 Internationals. He has scored 2,279 runs at an average of 31.2 and a strike rate of 146.4, including 17 half-centuries.
The Whanganui-born batter arrives following an outstanding campaign with Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred. Seifert was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 394 runs.
He completed the competition with a match-winning 72 from only 38 balls in the men’s final at Lord’s. His innings included seven sixes and four fours as Manchester Super Giants defeated Trent Rockets by five wickets.
He brings extensive experience from competitions around the world, having represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League and Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
Seifert has also previously played in the Big Bash League for Melbourne Renegades during BBL|14 and BBL|15.
Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said Seifert would add proven class and firepower to the club's batting line-up.
"Tim [Seifert] is one of the premier T20 batters in world cricket, and his recent player of the tournament performance in The Hundred is another example of the quality he brings," Haynes said.
"We’ve admired him for a long time, and his experience, attacking intent and match winning ability makes him a fantastic fit for the Sixers. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the club.”"
Seifert said the opportunity to join one of the BBL's most iconic clubs was one he couldn't pass up.
"The Sixers are one of the most respected and successful clubs in the competition, so it's a privilege to be joining the group," Seifert said.
"I've always loved playing cricket in Australia and the Big Bash is a tournament I genuinely enjoy being part of.
"To now have the opportunity to wear the Magenta and help contribute to the club's success is something I'm really excited about."
