Livingstone, 32, earned the highest price tag amongst the five English players that were sold in the lucrative auction, being sold to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a deal worth £1.085 million.

The Englishman was sold for 13 crores, which is significantly more than his base price of two crore.

Lucknow Super Giants were the other franchise bidding for the star.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad will be the fourth IPL franchise that Livingstone has played for in his career.

The Barrovian has previously played for Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and, latterly, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

For RCB, the batting all rounder was part of the squad that won last year’s tournament – their first such title.

However, the Cumbrian performed below par in that RCB title-winning team, mustering 112 runs in the 10 innings that he played.

Livingstone was not retained by RCB back in November, alongside former teammates Lungi Ngidi of South Africa and the Indian player Mayank Agarwal.

This left him with only the hope of success in the auction if he wanted to be a part of next year’s tournament.

In his IPL career so far, the England international has played 49 matches, scoring a total of 1051 runs, at a strike rate of 158.76 – this includes seven half-centuries.

There were 23 English cricketers in total who entered Tuesday’s IPL auction, but only five actually managed to secure deals with franchises.

These were: Livingstone himself, Ben Duckett, Tom Banton, Jordan Cox, and Luke Wood.

These five players join the likes of former England white-ball captain Jos Butler, as well as Sam Curren, Will Jacks, Jofra Archer, and Jacob Bethell, who were all retained by their franchises.

Livingstone is currently playing for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 where his team currently sits in fourth place.

Off the field, the England star married Olivia Reid in October, in what was described as a tight-knit ceremony with their ‘closest people’.
