Langley Manor produced one of the most unlikely wins of the Southern Premier Cricket League Division One season so far as they defended a modest total of 110 to beat bottom-of-the-table Havant by 22 runs at Knellers Lane.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Langley never looked comfortable against a disciplined Havant attack. The hosts slumped to 2-2 inside three overs, with Tom Spencer dismissed for a duck and Conor Browne managing just one run.

Elliot Ponting's 29 was the highest score of the innings, while Nick Doubell contributed 22 and Steve Harris added 15. Extras were also significant, accounting for 20 runs – the second-highest contribution in the innings.

Havant's bowlers shared the wickets around, with Peter Hayward, Cameron Prentice and Richard Hindley all claiming two wickets, while Hindley's figures of 2-11 from 8.4 overs were particularly impressive. Langley were eventually bowled out for just 110 in 37.4 overs.

At that stage, Havant looked strong favourites despite their lowly league position, especially when opener Andrew Galliers blasted 27 from 25 balls and helped his side reach 42-2.

What followed was a remarkable collapse inspired by Langley's two-man bowling attack.

The turning point came when Toby Green bowled Galliers at 42-3. From there, wickets tumbled as Green and Jack Campbell completely dominated the Havant batting line-up. Campbell struck four times and Green six, meaning the pair shared all 10 wickets between them.

Green finished with outstanding figures of 6-41 from his 10 overs, while Campbell delivered an equally important spell of 4-23 from 10 overs, including three maidens. Together they bowled all 20 overs of the innings.

Havant lost wickets at regular intervals and never recovered. There were three ducks in the innings, including Harrison Barnard, Thomas Clarke and Danielle Ransley, while Christopher Stone also managed only one run. After reaching 68-5, Havant lost five wickets for just 20 runs as the pressure mounted.

Campbell removed Christopher Morgan and Thomas Clarke at crucial moments before Green wrapped up the victory by trapping Peter Hayward and Ransley lbw in the final over.

It was an extraordinary result for Langley Manor, who successfully defended a below-par target thanks to a superb bowling display and some relentless pressure in the field.

Langley Manor return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ridge Meadow to face Hambledon, with play starting at 12.30pm.
