Sri Lankan overseas player Nimnaka Jayathilake bowled exceptionally well, delivering 10 maidens in his 12 overs and conceding only two runs while taking one wicket.

The home side's bowlers, including Jack Ormsby and Adam Whitehead, contributed to restricting Foxton Granta to a modest total of 112 runs, aided by a standout fielding display highlighted by impressive catches from Michael Turner and captain Mihir Chandraker.

In response, Saffron Walden's innings collapsed against Foxton Granta's spinners.

Australian Jonty Webb was particularly destructive, claiming five wickets for 33 runs, while skipper Lewys Hill also shone with five for 28.

The home side's innings faltered as wickets fell rapidly, with only Alex Peirson (16) and Jayathilake (19 not out) offering any resistance.

Ultimately, the visitors secured a comprehensive victory, solidifying their position at the top of the league and completing a double over Saffron Walden for the season.

Reflecting on the match, captain Chandraker expressed disappointment at the loss, particularly in a crucial top-of-the-table clash.

He acknowledged Foxton Granta's superior performance, highlighting the home side's struggle against their spinners as a recurring issue throughout the season.

Despite the defeat, he praised his bowlers, especially Spargo, for their efforts and noted Jayathilake's exceptional bowling in the middle overs.

In contrast, Saffron Walden's second XI found success against Foxton Granta's second team, bowling them out for just 85 runs.

Youngsters Charlie Hoyle (four for 23) and Harry Silverwood (three for 14) were instrumental in the victory, while Finn Karsten's composed innings of 28 ensured a successful chase.

This victory keeps the second XI at the top of the Cambs and Hunts Premier League 3.

Captain Tom Pluck reflected on the challenges of the pitch but praised his team's bowling and fielding efforts.

He noted the importance of their upcoming match against Elstow CC, which promises to be another significant encounter.

The third XI also enjoyed a convincing win, defeating Girton CC by six wickets, with Charlie Turner taking three wickets for 34 runs.

Arthur Ketteley's unbeaten 58 helped secure the victory, while opener Henry Wiseman set the tone with a blistering 40 off just 15 balls.

Meanwhile, the fourth XI narrowly missed out on victory against Cambourne Knights, who chased down 235 runs in a thrilling finish.

Jonny Brace's 78 and wicket-keeper Sanjay Gurung's 52 were standout performances, but the bowlers, including Maria Zamorano-Molina and Paul Findlay, fought valiantly.

In junior cricket, the U19s faced Loughton CC, with Kabir Sungeen's impressive one hundred and thirty not out leading the visitors to victory.

The U11s and U12s also celebrated wins, while the U14 girls triumphed over Great Shelford, showcasing the depth of talent within the club.

Looking ahead, Saffron Walden CC's second XI will return home to Saffron Walden this coming Saturday to face second in the league Elstow CC.
