Fenner’s was the venue for Saturday’s Onyx Premier League Division One clash between Cambridge St Giles and Histon.

The historic site has been the topic of much discussion in recent months, with many people voicing their concerns over its decline, as well as airing grievances over Hughes Hall’s application to build 120 student rooms at the location.

Nevertheless, the ground was in use at the weekend, with St Giles believed to have struck a deal to play four league matches there this year.

And the first of those saw them run out 58-run winners over Histon to move up to second in the league, just two points behind table-topping Saffron Walden.

Batting first, many of the St Giles line-up came and went without making much of an impact on the scoreboard.

However, Ashok Singh remained defiant to finish unbeaten on 55 not out – a total that helped to push his team up to a score of 186 all out.

It still looked an inviting total for Histon to chase, but thanks to the bowling of Vansh Bajaj (3-19) and Chris Germon (3-19), they never got close.

Histon, who are just one place above the relegation zone after a slow start to the campaign, were eventually bowled out for 128.

St Giles will head to Burwell & Exning on Saturday (6 June), while Histon travel to Eaton Socon on the same day.

Foxton Granta (167-3) ran out seven-wicket winners during their Onyx Premier League Division One clash away at Sawston & Babraham II (164) on Saturday.

While the hosting Rams remain winless, Vibhor Yadav was once again on top form as he racked up a score of 49 to top the league’s run charts.

In terms of the bowling, Richard Kaufman (3-51) led the way for Foxton Granta, who chased down their target in 35.5 overs.

Johnny Atkinson carried his bat with a score of 61 not out, while opener Adam Webster added 45.

Third-placed Foxton Granta will play host to Wisbech Town on Saturday (6 June), and basement side Sawston & Babraham II will head to Southill Park.

After back-to-back victories in the Onyx Premier League Division One, Burwell & Exning (221-8) suffered a two-wicket defeat on the road at Wisbech Town (224-8).

Number three batsman Dylan Johnson was Burwell & Exning’s main source of runs as he scored 95 runs from 108 deliveries.

Edward Manning (3-56) then caught the eye with the ball for the visitors, but the home side managed to squeeze over the winning line.

Seventh-placed Burwell & Exning will play host to Cambridge St Giles on Saturday (6 June).
