Tensions rose between the Indian captain, who is also a star player from Dhoni’s CSK Ayush Mhatre and Pakistan’s Ali Raza following Mhatre’s dismissal in the U19 Asia Cup 2025 final at the ICC Academy in Dubai on Sunday. The incident occurred in the third over of India’s innings as they chased Pakistan’s total of 347/8.

After a slow start in his first six balls, Mhatre attempted to drive a full-length delivery from Raza but failed to keep it on the ground. The ball struck the top of his bat and went directly to Pakistan captain Farhan Yousaf at mid-off, who held onto the catch. Raza celebrated enthusiastically, and while Mhatre was heading back, Raza’s gestures provoked him. Mhatre stopped and exchanged words with the Pakistan bowler before being escorted off the field.

The clip of the incident quickly spread across social media. Mhatre scored only two runs from seven deliveries.

Coming into the tournament after impressive performances in domestic cricket, expectations were high for Mhatre. However, the Indian captain managed only 65 runs across five matches, with his top score being 38 against Pakistan in the group stage. Meanwhile, chasing a massive total of 348, India found themselves in serious trouble, losing seven wickets before reaching 100 runs.

After Mhatre’s dismissal, India quickly lost Vaibhav Suryavanshi to Raza, followed by Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra, leaving the team at 59/4 in just seven overs. The situation worsened as India collapsed further, ending up at 112/7 after 20 overs.
