The ICC and the BCCI have contacted the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to extend full support and help ensure the best possible medical treatment for the team member.

He later underwent an emergency procedure and is currently stable, though doctors are keeping him under close watch in the Intensive Care Unit.

Senior Afghanistan players, including captain Rashid Khan and experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, are reported to have visited the hospital. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has asked for privacy for the individual and his family during this period.

Afghanistan's T20 World Cup 2026 Campaign

Afghanistan have had a tough start to their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. Their tournament began with a five-wicket loss to New Zealand in Chennai, putting early pressure on the team.

Afghanistan were involved in a dramatic clash against South Africa on February 11 in Ahmedabad. The match ended in a tie after regular play. Afghanistan eventually lost by just four runs in a rare double Super Over finish.

The Afghans are second from the bottom of Group D after back-to-back defeats. To stay in contention for the Super 8 stage, the Rashid Khan-led team must win their remaining matches by big margins to improve their net run rate of -0.555.

Afghanistan are currently in New Delhi for their next Group D match against the UAE on February 16. They will then face Canada in Chennai on February 19.
