The club wants to expand its facilities to cater for the women's and girls’ teams as well as Walking Cricket for senior players.

This would include building new showers and toilets.

It has been fundraising to meet its £25,000 target for the work, and the £4,000 donation from Cala will go towards the total.

Martin Elliott, treasurer of the club, said: "We are extremely thankful to Cala Homes and their generous donation to our club.

"We had an ambitious target to reach, and their support helped make it all possible.

"This donation supports our continuous efforts to make cricket available, as it should be, to everyone, and we’re delighted to expand our facilities so we can accommodate more female and senior players, which is something we weren’t previously able to do."

The donation was part of Cala’s Community Pledge initiative at its Bliss Willows development.

The club, which dates back to 1833, supports more than 98 games each season and is run by more than 25 volunteers.

The club also hopes to create a dedicated women’s changing room in the future.
