NORTHERN Cape Cricket has strengthened its commitment to developing the game across the province after welcoming New Vaal Motors as its new vehicle partner and main sponsor of the Northern Cape Colts for the 2026/27 season.

The partnership will see New Vaal Motors provide vehicles for all Northern Cape Cricket senior teams, supporting their travel requirements while reinforcing the dealership’s investment in cricket at both youth and senior levels.

The sponsorship represents an important boost for the provincial union, where support from local businesses can help create better opportunities for players, improve team mobility, and strengthen the pathway from junior cricket to senior provincial representation.

Investing in next generation of cricketers

Johan Liebenberg, dealer principal at New Vaal Motors, said the dealership recognised the importance of investing in the next generation of cricketers and providing them with the resources to develop their potential.

“The leaders of tomorrow need the right kit, training, and tools to take Northern Cape Cricket forward. We believe in supporting youth cricket in the region, and we are proud to throw our weight behind the development of the game.

“By supporting the senior men’s and women’s teams, we also want to make clear that our senior sides should be a strong foundation for our youth: an inspiration and a goal for young players who hope to represent the province one day.”

New Vaal Motors’ role as the main sponsor of the Northern Cape Colts for the coming season places particular emphasis on youth development, while its support for the senior teams highlights the importance of establishing visible role models for aspiring provincial players.

Travel demands: One less headache

For Northern Cape Cricket, the partnership offers more than vehicle support. Reliable transport can help teams manage the demands of travelling to matches and competitions, while investment in the Colts provides backing for young cricketers working towards senior selection.

The involvement of the dealership across different levels of the game also creates an opportunity to strengthen the connection between junior development and senior performance, helping young players see a clearer route towards representing the province.

Rudi Ferreira, Commercial Manager of Northern Cape Cricket, said the partnership reflected New Vaal Motors’ growing relationship with the union and its willingness to invest in local sport.

“Welcoming back a strong sponsor like New Vaal Motors shows how much the dealership has come to care about and invest in Northern Cape Cricket.

“New Vaal Motors supports local sport and youth development and has also placed its trust in Northern Cape Cricket to represent its brand.

“Our duty as a union is to ensure our sponsors receive maximum value from their involvement. We are excited to restore our pride and, together, inspire excellence.

“Thank you, New Vaal Motors.”

Importance of sustained investment

The renewed relationship provides Northern Cape Cricket with an opportunity to build on its existing development structures while working with a business partner that has committed its support to both emerging talent and established provincial teams.

With the Colts receiving dedicated sponsorship and the senior men’s and women’s teams benefiting from vehicle support, the partnership reinforces the importance of sustained investment throughout the provincial cricket system.

For aspiring cricketers in the Northern Cape, the message is clear: developing the next generation requires more than talent alone. It also takes investment, opportunities, and a strong senior structure that young players can aspire to join.
