A THREE-day international cricket level one coach tutor training concluded at the Amini Park in Port Moresby last Thursday.

Participants also completed their final on-field assessments and celebrated their achievements during the closing ceremony.

The International Cricket Council-sanctioned teaching was designed to develop certified coach tutor trainers who would deliver quality coach education across PNG.

Throughout the course, participants strengthened their skills in effective communication, facilitation, structured learning, audience engagement and the use of relevant teaching materials to lift their coaching skills.

The programme was facilitated by ICC master educator Toby Doyle from New Zealand and on-ground coordination by Cricket PNG’s high performance coach Tim McCaskill.

Participants included Michael Sota from Lae, Simon Deiwillie from Alotau and seven participants from the National Capital District.

Representing the Lae Cricket Association (LCA), Sota acknowledged ICC and Cricket PNG for the opportunity and shared his feedback of the training stating, one of the most important lessons was understanding the key role a coach tutor plays in developing coaches, which ultimately influences player performance on the field.

“I am looking forward to returning to Lae to share the knowledge and skills I have gained with our cricket community,” Sota said.

“We have come a long way with cricket in Morobe, and training opportunities like this keeps us up-to-date and connected with the global cricket community.”

He added this is part of a progressive process and he hopes to see a LCA representative play or coach any cricket national teams in the coming years.

Cricket Papua New Guinea acknowledged the ICC for facilitating the programme and reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong network of qualified coach tutors who will continue to support the growth and development of cricket throughout the country.
