Watch: Virat Kohli Prepares for NZ ODIs with Intense Net Session; Mission 2027 WC Continues
The India vs New Zealand ODI series begins on November 4 and consists of five games. For Virat Kohli, it is another step in making a case to be picked for the World Cup in 2027. The intent is there as the 37-year-old has stepped up preparations ahead of the tour. Kohli was seen engaged in an intense net session at the Cricket Club of India's Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on October 23.
Virat Kohli's Range of Shots
He spent close to two hours batting and showed his brilliant range of shots with the bat. Be it his drives or even his defensive shots, the former captain looked in good touch. Nor was he shy to use his feet against the spinners. It was vintage Kohli and great to watch.

Yet Another World Record
A month ago, Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar's world record of being the fastest to 15,000 ODI runs. He has had a great 2026 so far with 552 runs in nine innings with one not-out at an average of 69 with two 100s and three 50s. Not to mention a top score of 139 not out. In the recent series vs West Indies, he scored 168 runs in three innings at an average of 84.
Twilight of Virat Kohli's Career
Kohli turns 38 in 10 days and when the World Cup takes place, he will turn 39 during the tournament. He's been playing for India since 2008. The man has retired from T20Is and Tests in 2024 and 2025 respectively, so an ODI retirement is equivalent to an international farewell.

Dream Exit Loading?
Will the ODI World Cup be Kohli's dream exit? He helped India win it in 2011. He lost in the final in 2023. Can he finish on a high with the title in 2027? Of course, he has to make the trip first and so far, has shown good form and fitness. Age is just a number for Kohli and leaving him out of the World Cup would not do India any favours.
Virat Kohli's Amazing ODI Stats
Kohli's ODI numbers are to die for. The man has batted 305 times in 317 games with 48 unbeaten knocks. He has scored 15,109 runs at an average of 58.78 with 55 100s and 79 50s with a personal best of 183. The man has the most ODI 100s, and is also the fastest to 8000, 9000, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000, 13,000 and 14,000 ODI runs.
