The Under-14 girls made school history by becoming the first girls’ team ever to win a county cricket trophy for Ripon Grammar School after a thrilling three-wicket victory over Rossett School.

The Under-14 boys completed the double by capping an outstanding campaign with a commanding 39-run victory over St Aidan’s to lift the North Yorkshire Schools title.

Batting first in the boys’ final, Ripon Grammar amassed an impressive 161-2 from their 20 overs.

Captain Oliver Moorcroft led from the front with a superb unbeaten 50 before retiring, while Jacob Nicholson anchored the innings with an unbeaten 38.

Will Lakin also made an important contribution with 25 as Ripon built a formidable total.

The bowlers then ensured there would be no way back for St Aidan’s, dismissing them for 122 in 17.3 overs.

Oliver Moorcroft completed an excellent all-round performance with figures of 2-14, while Seb Robinson also claimed two wickets.

James Taylor and Ashvath Koneti added further wickets, and two sharp run outs highlighted an outstanding fielding display.

The victory was a fitting reward for a talented squad that has produced consistent performances throughout the season, showcasing strength with both bat and ball to deservedly become North Yorkshire Schools champions.

Having elected to bat in the girls’ final, Rossett were dismissed for 97 in 18.1 overs thanks to an outstanding all-round bowling display from Ripon Grammar.

Rosie Forsythe led the attack with superb figures of 3-18, while Sophie Pettie (2-16) and Orla Metcalfe (2-15) both claimed two wickets.

Florence Lund and Aashi Joshi also took a wicket each as the team maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings.

Chasing 98 for victory, Ripon Grammar recovered from an early setback with Phoebe Dilworth producing an excellent innings of 29 to lay the foundations for the chase.

Rosie Forsythe added a valuable eight before Florence Lund showed great composure to remain unbeaten and steer the team to 99-6 with eight balls to spare, securing a famous victory.

The triumph is a landmark moment for girls’ cricket at Ripon Grammar School and reflects the team’s hard work, determination and outstanding spirit throughout the season.

Winning both Under-14 North Yorkshire Schools titles in the same season is a tremendous achievement for Ripon Grammar School, reflecting the strength of the school’s cricket programme.
