Proteas coach Shukri Conrad has admitted that there’s still some areas of concern in his team, ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in February and March in India.

Proteas coach identifies areas to improve ahead of T20 World Cup

Conrad had the benefit of playing in that country in the recently concluded five-match T20 series, and says he’d like to add some stability to both their batting order and bowling unit ahead of the tournament.

Although Conrad wants his team to execute their duties a bit better than they did in the 3-1 loss, he concedes that they might have been a bit rusty.

"I think the top of the order, that position whether it's opening or number 3, I think we've got two, Quinton [de Kock] and Aiden [Markram], we are probably looking at another batter, at the top of the order,” Conrad said.

“I think you are missing someone like Kagiso [Rabada] who's massive for us in the bowling department. I still think we can execute a little bit better with the ball when under pressure. So, I just think the guys just need a few matches under their belt, we haven't played T20 cricket in a long time."

South Africa lost the final T20 International match by 30 runs in Ahmedabad, and struggled to chase India’s 231 total.

Conrad says they need to get better at chasing if they’re going to get positive results at the World Cup.

"I think we need to get better at chasing as well, I think we play really well when we set. So, we obviously wanna see, put guys under that sort of pressure of chasing. We had a really long batting line up tonight so you fancy yourself chasing whatever,” the coach added.

“I think it's a tough ground to defend anyway so based on that and the fact that there might have been a little bit of dew coming in, with the ball getting wet. We fancied our chances chasing and like I say, we wanna get better at chasing as well."
