Shubman Gill DROPPED as India announce squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2026
One of the highlights of the India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 was Shubman Gill getting dropped in the team amid his poor performances in the format. He was the vice-captain of the side but his poor performances saw him getting dropped.
Axar Patel has been handed the vice-captaincy, while Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson will be the two openers alongside Gill. In the middle-order, Tilak Varma will be there alongside with captain Suryakumar Yadav and the two pace all-rounders in Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube.
In the spin department, Varun Chakravarthy will take charge as the lead spinner and will be accompanied by Kuldeep Yadav. Not only this, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar will also be there in the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Another surprise call was Jitesh Sharma missing out and Ishan Kishan getting a call-up in the Indian side for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Kishan made an entry back in the team after his incredible performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.
Rinku Singh is also back in the team after missing the series against South Africa. The pace department features the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana. The same squad will also feature in the New Zealand series.
