Proteas Women clinch T20 series after rain affected victory in Benoni

The rain-affected game at Willowmoore Park was reduced to 14 overs a side, and Khaka finished with figures of 3/10 as they restricted the visitors to 100/9. She says they executed the game plan better than the first T20 in Potchefstroom, and were determined to wrap up the series with a match to spare.

“We knew what we wanted  – we wanted to win the series. I think we came here today to execute everything and to make sure we improved from the previous game.

“Firstly, I think the wicket suited us, especially the pace bowlers. Secondly, I think we executed better than we did in Potch. Yesterday, as a bowling unit, we didn't even bowl to the batters –  we were bowling in the middle. We tried to make sure that we come today and executed whatever we needed to,” said Khaka

Chasing 101 for the win could have been awkward for South Africa, but Khaka believes the batters were mature in their second innings approach. She says they went in with the same intensity as when chasing a big score.

Khaka had a new role in the bowling unit, a deviation from her usual opening spell for the Proteas Women. She dismissed talk of a particular preferred role and says she’ll do whatever job is required of her.

“Uhm I think to be honest, I have been bowling everywhere. I’ve bowled in the powerplay and I’ve bowled in the middle, but that is what I’ve always done –  it’s not something new to me but it is a tough job to be honest, I am taking the responsibility for the team.”

The third and final match will take place at the same venue on Monday after being moved from Kimberley, and Khaka says all they need to do is to tick the boxes as they go for a clean sweep.
