India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav is set to be reviewed for a possible exclusion from the national T20 setup, according to reports, as selectors and team management assess his recent performances across formats.

Sources indicate that the national selection committee, in consultation with the head coach, has been monitoring Suryakumar’s form closely, particularly during the Indian Premier League season. His performance in IPL 2026, where he scored 270 runs in 13 innings at an average of 20.76 and a strike rate of 147.54, has reportedly not shown the expected resurgence.

The discussions around his future come after a noticeable dip in consistency following the T20 World Cup campaign, where his standout performance came only in the opening match against the United States, in which he scored an unbeaten 84. Since then, his contributions have been limited, raising concerns about his long-term role in the side.

According to officials, Suryakumar was already not included in the list of probables for the 2026 Asian Games, a decision taken earlier in the year, signalling that selectors had begun evaluating alternatives in the T20 structure.

With India entering a new T20 cycle, the leadership and batting core are also under review. Reports suggest that the management is exploring fresh leadership options, with players such as Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan being discussed as potential candidates for both captaincy and middle-order roles.

Shreyas Iyer is seen as a leading contender due to his experience, IPL success, and leadership credentials, while Ishan Kishan is also under consideration following his strong domestic and IPL performances. Tilak Varma is reportedly being groomed as a long-term leadership option within the setup.

The reported move reflects a broader transition phase in Indian T20 cricket, as the team management looks to rebuild ahead of the next World Cup cycle. A final decision from the selectors is expected in the upcoming selection meeting later this week.
