Ranchi, October 25: Left-arm spinner Aman Chaudhary is set to make his first-class cricket debut for Delhi against a depleted Jharkhand side in the third-round Ranji Trophy Group C match starting Monday. The 18-year-old's inclusion comes as Delhi’s bowling attack has struggled in recent seasons, with head coach Vijay Dahiya and selectors hoping he can provide a much-needed boost.
Chaudhary, who has previously represented Delhi in the Cooch Behar Trophy, impressed during net sessions and practice matches, prompting Dahiya to include him in the playing XI. Jharkhand, meanwhile, will be without key players including regular captain Ishan Kishan, Kumar Kushagra, and Shikhar Mohan. Kishan and Kushagra are currently with the Indian limited-overs squad in New Zealand, while Shikhar Mohan has been called up for India A duties.
“We have been closely monitoring Aman’s performance in the nets, and he shows great promise as a left-arm spinner,” a senior team management member told PTI ahead of the match. Delhi is expected to field three specialist spinners – Aman, off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen, and left-arm spin all-rounder Sumit Mathur. Captain Ayush Badoni also offers an off-break option.
Delhi will also miss the services of experienced fast bowler Navdeep Saini, sidelined due to a calf muscle issue. Aman is likely to replace either Maney Grewal or Divij Mehra, while Simarjeet Singh is expected to step in for Saini. In their previous match, Delhi's batsmen, including India A limited-overs opener Priyansh Arya (199) and captain Ayush Badoni (double century), performed exceptionally well. However, the bowlers struggled to dismiss Gujarat, managing to bowl them out only once and securing just three points from the match.
