Boyle in hot form for Bridges
Three Bridges CC kept up their perfect start to their Sussex Premier League campaign – but promoted West Chiltington and Thakeham made them work hard for it.
West Chilts won the toss and elected to bat and compiled 262 all out in 48.5 overs.
Charlie Woodage top-scored with 82, Oliver Whithead weighed in with 44 and Nathan Poole 38, while Oliver Blandford was Bridges’ star with the ball, his 5-44 backed up by two wickets apiece for Connah Thompson and Sam Rattle.
When Bridges replied, they were indebted to Matt Boyle – recently signed by Middlesex for their Vitality Blast campaign – whose 113, containing 16 fours and three sixes, was the centrepiece of what proved a successful run chase.
Opener James Russell’s 32 and Michael Cowdrey’s 57 were important but West Chilts took regular wickets to make life difficult for Jow Walker’s side,
When Cowdrey was out it was 230-6 but 25 not out from Arran Brown got Bridges home by three wickets to make it four wins from four, leaving them joint top with Roffey, who have the same record from the opening month of games.
Those two sides are 21 points clear of third-placed Middleton.
Bridges visit Haywards Heath on Saturday.
In Division 2, Ifield won by 13 runs at Eastbourne.
Electing to bat first, 63 from Raminda Wijesooriya and 51 from Sajeer Nizam helped Ifield to 246-8 from their 50 overs,
Chasing a very slightly revised target of 244, the home side were all out for 230 despite Scott Lenham’s 64 – with James Varney taking 3-42 and Wijesooriya 3-46.
Four other bowlers took a wicket each.
Ifield, who are sixth, host leaders Brighton and Hove on Saturday.
