The Maharashtra government signed a lease agreement with KDCA to develop an international cricket stadium, residential academy, and multi-sports hub in Kolhapur, aiming to strengthen sports infrastructure and talent development.

The Maharashtra government has taken a significant step towards strengthening the state's sports infrastructure by signing a lease agreement with the Kolhapur District Cricket Association (KDCA) for the development of an international-standard cricket stadium and a multi-sports complex in Vikaswadi, Kolhapur. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The project is aimed at transforming Kolhapur into a major cricket and sports destination while creating modern facilities for athletes across multiple disciplines. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, KDCA President SambhajiRaje Chhatrapati, and other members of the state cabinet were also present during the signing ceremony.

As part of the project, the proposed KDCA International Cricket Stadium will be supported by a residential cricket academy equipped with advanced coaching infrastructure. The campus will also include a sports science centre, indoor and outdoor practice facilities, physiotherapy and rehabilitation centres, fitness training infrastructure, and accommodation for players.

Beyond cricket, the complex has been planned as a comprehensive multi-sports hub. Facilities for sports such as wrestling, boxing, judo, fencing, archery, swimming, table tennis, and several other disciplines are proposed. The project will also feature a cricket museum and a modern clubhouse, providing additional amenities for athletes and visitors.

The state government said the initiative is expected to strengthen sports infrastructure in western Maharashtra while creating opportunities for talent identification and professional training. Officials believe the project will help nurture young athletes by providing access to world-class facilities closer to home.

The partnership between the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services and KDCA reflects the government's focus on expanding sports infrastructure through collaborative initiatives, with the long-term goal of promoting competitive sports and positioning Kolhapur as a leading regional sports hub.
