Billy Mead and Jacob Gordon forged an unbroken 163-run partnership as Bishop’s Stortford won by eight wickets at Radlett on Saturday (May 30).

They got the visitors to their victory target with 12 overs to spare in the Saracens Hertfordshire Premier League, Premier Division contest.

The away side won the toss and, after electing to field, Ben Twohig took a sharp catch off the bowling of Ali Hancock (4-43) to dismiss former Stortford captain Dom Chatfield with the score on 33.

Another good catch by Will Dommett in the following over off the bowling of Sam Davis (1-32) then removed Archie Harrison.

Suhan Shovkar batted well while wickets fell around him, but he was bowled by Hancock immediately after a drinks break for a fine 74 to leave the hosts on 152-6.

Tight bowling ultimately restricted Radlett to a below-par 210 when they were all out in the 47th over, with the other wickets falling to Dom Clutterbuck (3-43) and Simon Lindop (1-39).

Stortford made a good start with the bat before Davis (22) was caught and Daniel Smith (18) unluckily fell two overs later to leave them 48-2.

But Mead and Gordon remained unbeaten on 72 and 73 respectively as they got the visitors to 211-2 with 12 overs to spare.

The second team suffered a 12-run home defeat at the hands of Old Finchleians in Division 2B.

Stortford won the toss and made a fine start as Travis Hussain bowled opener Himansu Depala in the first over.

The visitors recovered with a 50-run partnership before Cam Krauth took a caught-and-bowled.

A stand worth 103 followed as the away team moved on to 158-2, but the introduction of Max Sanderson (2-40) and Adam Bassingthwaighte (5-21) led to them closing on 212-9 from their 50 overs.

Haitel Patel and Tommy Burslem made a brisk start to the run chase, but they fell for 16 and 30 respectively in the space of three balls to leave Stortford 52-2.

Bassingthwaighte and Sanderson took the score to 147 before the latter was bowled for 45 and the former was later bowled for 53 at 167-6.

And the hosts were 12 runs shy of their target on 200-9 with 2.3 overs remaining when Benjamin Furrer was run out for 21 as they came up short.

The third team went down by just two runs at home to Bengeo in the Tees Herts & Essex Border League, Premier Division.

The visitors won the toss and opener Charlie Reeves’ 86 helped them make 218 all out in 43.1 overs.

R’Jai Gittens took 4-45, Ruan Premadasa got 3-21 and there was a wicket apiece for Raheel Mehboob and Samuel Braund along with a run out.

Braund top-scored with 42 in the reply and there were knocks of 32 from both Simon Sargent and Tim Bennett, but Stortford were all out for 216 as they agonisingly missed out.

Three half-centuries - and 45 extras - helped the fourth team register a 207-run victory at High Roding III in Division Two.

Openers J Hollard and Fred Hussain scored 62 and 75 respectively while O Foot remained unbeaten on 76 from just 36 balls in the visitors’ 40-over total of 319-6.

The hosts did get to 95-3 in reply, but they were ultimately removed for 112 in 30.5 overs as D Bennett, F Ahmed, A Dua and R Bloemink all took two wickets.

The 1825s (fifth team) were also seven-wicket winners at North Weald II in Division Four.

P Shukla led the way with 5-8 off six overs as Stortford dismissed the hosts, who had won the toss, for 127 in 31.4 overs.

The visitors reached 132-3 in the 22nd over as R Green carried his bat for 61 and K Wilson-Pratt hit an undefeated 26.
